Meet the Angora Goat

Ever wonder where mohair comes from?

A couple months ago I visited mom's farm, where the mohair sock story began. Pictured here are angora goats (and one dairy goat), heading out to pasture for a lovely day of grazing.

Typically angora goats have long flowing hair that falls down in ringlets, but these goats have been recently sheared and are waiting for their next coat to grow in.

Angora goats are sheared twice per year, and their hair is washed, spun, and made into all types of garments.  Mohair is best known for its luster, strength, durability and softness.  It's a luxurious fiber, historically reserved for fashion garments that people can see, but its qualities make it perfect sock material!  Soft, warm, durable, wicking, and naturally resists bacterial growth (bye bye stinky socks).

To keep the goats safe on the farm, Buddy the Great Pyrenees is on duty to protect against predators like coyotes and wolves.
